Thank you for purchasing JWLABS Model A-3.1.

Model A is an entertainment device, designed to give you many years of thrilling tactile music. Model A is also a full power Rife Instrument, capable of all the same functions as our legendary Model B.

Model A has enough power to treat a horse, but is sensitive enough to treat a mouse. For this reason, Model A must be used with all the same cautions as Model B.

This manual is by no means all there is to know about Rife therapy. We will cover the basic cautions, basic operations and a thumbnail sketch of the components of the most common approaches.

Since Model A uses recorded sessions made from Model B, you need not worry about the many complex ways of tuning as you would with a fully manual instrument like Model B. You can still, very easily select ranges of frequencies from the recordings, as you would select music tracks, allowing you to customize your sessions as needed.

Although the way Model A operates is different from any other instrument and it may seem strange to you at first, it is very easy for almost anyone to use effectively.

JW personally warrants all his machines for defects in parts and workmanship for any registered user as long as you own it. He answers calls from 9am to 9pm 7 days a week.

Before You Begin

Prior to beginning any therapy of this kind, it is useful to have a good record of the daily fluctuation in your interstitial Ph. This is measured by placing a Ph strip (included) under your tongue for a moment and then comparing it with a chart. In almost all cases, use of the machine will cause your Ph to become more acidic temporarily. We suggest keeping a journal containing your Ph readings three times daily, so that you have a means of determining what your Ph normally is. If it is not moving, or does not reach 6.8, dietary changes will probably be necessary.

Normal Ph is 6.8. It is important to know what the Ph is, since most disease pathogens cannot thrive in an alkaline environment, keeping it above 7.0 is good if it is possible. Ph may drop as much as a full point during a session of only 5 minutes for some new users due to rapid kill off of pathogens. For this reason we suggest that new users not use the machine for more than a few minutes at a time, unless or until Ph is under control. Ph is covered in detail in the StayTuned booklet that comes with your Model A.

If your Ph does not seem to change, drink lots of water. If the total salts of your body are too high, then it means that your bodily water is too hard. The only way to reduce it is by diluting it with clean water. Stay away from all mineral supplements for at least a few days and do not take salt of any kind.

There are two very fundamental approaches to the therapy, Topical, and Systemic.

For most systemic applications, the rule of thumb is not more than 30 minutes every three days. Systemic applications are accomplished by applying patches either to the hands, or the feet, which allows a diffuse current to flow evenly to the upper or lower parts of the body respectively.

Topical applications can be used more often, such as in applications for rheumatoid arthritis, where the patches are applied directly to both sides of the area of attack whenever they occur. Basic Ph rules still apply. If the Ph changes more than a half point, or drops below 6.0, refrain from the therapy until it has time to recover.

The quality of the connection you make with the machine is another very important basic. If the skin where patches are applied is too dehydrated, it will not conduct as well. If the patches are loose, or there is not enough conductive gel, burns to the skin may result.

One traditional way to assure perfect connection is by means of "water baths". Water baths are accomplished by adding 1/2 cup of sea salt to 2 inches of warm water in each of two dish pans. Using the carbon rubber patches to protect the lead ends, place them in the pans, one each. Stand in the pans and do the therapy as you normally would. This gives a perfect connection, and is completely safe. However, it is even more important that you have a good mastery of the instrument before you attempt the water bath method.

Since Model A is battery powered, there is no chance of your getting a real shock, but certain basic rules of operation must be strictly observed.

Always begin and end each session with the amplitude turned all the way down.

Never make or break your connection with the machine unless you turn down the amplitude to zero.

Always start the session recording before you connect with the machine. Test the output with your hands first, before applying to a sensitive area of the body, to be sure that it is running smoothly. Then turn the amplitude all the way down again before you begin.

The Model A has two types of current that you should be aware of. The first is what we call the MIGRATION CURRENT. This is the part of the output that you can feel most easily. It is like a bolt of lightning, and the farther it travels inside you, the more it "forks", until it is completely diffuse.

The second type of current is what we call the DIFFUSION CURRENT, which most people do not feel. The diffusion current is the current that has completely "forked" and is completely diffuse.

Use migration current for topical applications, such as wounds, tumors, infections etc. This will electrocute pathogens more readily, in combination with the actual frequencies of the current.

Use diffusion current to treat systemic problems.

The Model A has two polarities. One is marked in red on the lead end where they are inserted into the patches. This is the positive side, also called the hot side. The other is marked in black, and is the negative side, also called ground. Generally use the positive side to electrocute pathogens and the ground to remove toxins or stimulate tissues.

In both cases, frequency is also an active part of the output. But it is far easier to kill off microbes by electrocution than it is by frequency. Both will be in play during any session.

Polarity applications are a different approach to the therapy, using low frequency settings at a very low output for a longer time, up to an hour or even more. This method relies on the principal that current interferes with the reproduction of most pathogens. This approach is most useful for those who are severely ill and there is a fear of reaction to more aggressive procedures. Output is set at a level at or below the point where the output can be felt.

To achieve a natural polarity for the body, negative is applied to the feet, and positive to the hands. For this reason, Model A has two sets of output leads, each with two electrodes. The extra set may also be used to treat two people at once.

This is especially useful when treating someone else, such as a person who is incapacitated, one who has little or no feeling, or for infants and toddlers. The person giving the treatment applies the second set to themselves so as to take away some of the output from the subject and to assure that they do not inadvertently apply too much power.

Basic Cautions

The key to understanding cautions is to understand the unique characteristics of the application of current to the body. Deliverable therapeutic energy drops off exponentially, the higher the frequency. This means that at the same amplitude, you feel 2000 Hz much less than you feel 20 Hz. Thus, a sudden change in frequency from 2000 to 20 would be a shock to the system. Even though the energy is the same, your body would feel it as a shock. Obviously, such a change could be harmful if electrodes are located in a sensitive area of the body and a sudden change were to occur, especially in the downward direction.

Model A has eliminated this hazard by the inclusion of professionally made recordings, which have no sudden changes.

Use with music, or other audio input to the machine, will involve many sudden changes. Just as we do not deafen ourselves with headphones, because to do so will cause pain, use with music is adjusted at a comfortable level.

Since the most conductive tissue in the body is the nerves, which are high in sodium, pain to nerves prevents harm to other tissues of the body. For this reason, injuries due to Model A use are almost unheard of. The basic procedure for beginning and ending a session should be adhered to at all times.

Always begin and end every session with the AMPLITUDE turned all the way down. Always test the output in your hands before application to sensitive areas. Always start the recording before connecting to the machine.

Never turn the machine or the recording on or off, while you are connected to the machine.

Never make or break your connection with the machine unless you have turned the amplitude all the way down first.

Any two opposite polarity patches that are touched together, will short the output, so do not have a second set of leads plugged into the machine, unless they are in use.

Do not attempt any application above the shoulders until you have a mastery of the operation of Model A. Do not apply so much energy to any part of the head that causes flashing in the eyes. This may cause harm to the optic nerve.

Do not apply migration current to the heart, especially if there is a pacemaker. Do not apply migration current to any metal parts of the body, including staples, screws, rods, joints, or tooth fillings.

Never forget that Model A has massive power. Life threatening cases of Gangrene can be cleared up in two hours. It is not like a drug. It works on many problems immediately, and huge changes in the blood chemistry will occur in only a few minutes of use. Although these are beneficial changes, it is important to realize that the machine will continue to work as long as you use it.

"Overdose" will often bring on a healing crisis, similar or identical to the Jarrisch-Herxheimer reaction. This means that a big kill off of micro-organisms, or a big release of toxins, even in people who are perfectly well, will cause a "Rife hangover", which can be serious if it is extreme.

This is why we recommend that new users begin with several short sessions spaced by a few days, to take the edges off of undiagnosed infections prior to beginning full sessions.

Acute Influenza has no application. To treat this problem in the very young, or people who are frail, is not recommended except by a practitioner. For the sufferer who is otherwise well and vital, short sessions using Side C of any session recording will generally result in rapid recovery, (about half the time it takes to recover normally).

Regular users will not get influenza. This is because the virus is stopped before symptoms can manifest. This is why there is no application for Influenza. This is also true for many typical viral infections including the common cold. These are a thing of the past, for most Model A users.

For viruses that can become dormant and for users who are taking virus suppressive drugs, there is the potential for a massive activation of the dormant pathogens, causing massive outbreaks of such things as Herpes if they are present. Use of such drugs during Rife therapy is not recommended for this reason.
It is suggested that users refrain from the therapy for at least three days prior to getting any sort of conventional testing. Failure to do so will make such tests read falsely, which could cause a conventional doctor to make incorrect judgements or prescriptions.

Use of Model A will normally have the effect of ionizing metals in the body and will break down many complex molecules into simpler components. This is a useful effect, removing toxins and heavy metals as a natural part of the process. People who are anemic should pay close attention to their iron intake, which may need to be increased slightly to compensate.

Since current can penetrate any part or tissue of the body, it is useful to treat areas of chronic infection or tumor with migration current, as this will create pathways into these areas that are normally blocked from the immune system. Often other therapies will begin to work where they did not or could not work before. For this reason it is worthwhile to try other remedies that may have worked for a while prior to beginning Rife therapy.

This is also true in chemotherapy. Less may be needed and it may work much faster than normal. If this occurs, it is best to reduce dosages if tumors begin to rapidly reduce.

Since Model A current is exchanging electrons throughout the body, a mild but regular treatment is useful is reducing the negative effects of radiation treatments, but avoid direct application to areas that are burned or scalded by radiation.

The therapy is a stimulus to all tissues, glands and organs. It may not be advisable to treat the thyroid gland however, when a prescription drug is used, or in hyperthyroidism.

Wavelengths, (or frequencies) that are harmful for the body are specifically not used in authentic Rife therapy. Thus, the machine is not capable of killing human cells. This requires very short wavelengths which correspond to structures of the body. To avoid this hazard, the machine does not produce wavelengths of less than 18 feet. (Microwave lengths are measured in centimeters)

For this reason, the machine cannot kill human cancer cells. Technically speaking therefore, the machine cannot cure true cancer, (human cancer cells). However, it will often lead to a removal of the cause of the cancer and if this is done prior to the development of cancer cells, a complete cure is possible. Treat cancer as early as possible, before it progresses to advanced stages.

Scientific studies of the effects of current on the cell seems to indicate that a cyclic enzyme catalysis is induced by low frequency application to the body. Effects such as these have been reported for many years and may aid in the function of liver and pancreas.

Regular use of the machine is as basic to health and well being as soap and water. Experienced users may take ten minute sessions in the morning, to head off infections and maintain a level of health that would not have been possible otherwise.

Since prevention is always better than a cure, a regular morning regimen is suggested for most people, even if they are in perfect health.

We are sincerely dedicated to the success of every customer. Please call if you need help or advice. We hope you enjoy your new, state of the art Model A-3.1.

Operating Instructions for Model A-3.1

Please read this manual in its entirety before you attempt to use the instrument.

This manual is not intended as an application guide.

Take an Inventory

First, take a moment to inventory what you have received. Compare the contents with the PACKING SLIP to verify that your shipment is complete. If anything looks damaged or not present, contact us immediately. Save all packing materials for insurance purposes.

Outside Features

Your Model A is very small. Only one tenth the size of Model B, it has the same power. It is made to last and designed to perform. Also like Model B, it is built into one of the most durable enclosures available. This enclosure is very tough and almost completely crush proof.

When closed, your Model A-3.1 is both water resistant and air tight. You will notice, just below the clasp, is a little "burp valve" (not shown) that automatically releases the air pressure inside as you close it, so that you can do so easily.

A small carrying strap is provided for your convenience.

Handling and Care

When open, Model A is vulnerable to water and other damage. Always remove LEAD WIRES and INPUT CABLES and close the case when not in use. Do not attempt to close the case when wires are still attached to the instrument. Avoid putting tension on the wires when they are plugged in, as this may cause damage to the machine. When performing salt water bath applications, take care not to drop the machine into the water.

Clearances inside the unit are fairly close when it is closed. Do not attempt to store anything inside the case. To do so may cause damage to parts.

If Model A becomes soiled, wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth or soft paper towel. Do not use any chemicals or abrasives.

There are no user serviceable parts inside, so please do not attempt to remove the FRONT PANEL.

Safety

Caution: This unit may not be safe around children. Although youngsters as early as age nine have been taught to use the machine, kids under age 13 should not be permitted to use the machine without adult supervision.

Danger of electric shock. The electrode leads must never be plugged into an electrical outlet. Youngsters must never be allowed to handle lead wires.

Always place the machine in a cool dry place, out of the reach of toddlers when not in use.

Model A is designed so that output will stop if it does not receive a valid input signal. This prevents burning of the skin, if the user falls asleep and the session recording reaches its end.

Model A cannot produce an output with short wave lengths. If Model A is fed an input signal that exceeds the safe frequency range, output will stop.

Do not attempt to make session recordings.

Model A is designed to accept only music and JWLABS Model B session recordings for conversion into therapeutic output.

We cannot presume to know all the potential dangers that may be present, especially if the machine is used in any way that is not specifically suggested.

Do not attempt to apply electrode patches above the shoulders. Although there are applications that call for use in this way, a reasonable mastery of the use of the machine is required. Since the machine is powerful enough to treat a horse, it is capable of giving a significant shock to the system if the proper safety precautions are not strictly adhered to.

The AMPLITUDE adjust is the main safety feature. This is a ten turn potentiometer. It will increase or decrease the amount of output at the lead ends very gradually. If the adjustment knob is bumped or swiped accidentally during any session, the amount of change that can occur is minimized.

Before you make or break any connection with the machine, always turn the AMPLITUDE all the way down.

Preparing Model A For Use

You will need a very small Phillips screwdriver and four (4) AA size batteries. Good quality alkaline batteries will last up to 16 hours of continuous use. Rechargeable nicad or lithium batteries will last about 32 hours on average.

You will need a playback device, also called the INPUT DEVICE. This can be a tape player, walkman, or any other common stereo player. Not all players have enough output power to activate Model A. You may want to test an input device for use with Model A prior to purchase, to be sure it will adequately activate Model A. (See Activity Light later in this chapter)

You may also use your computer as a playback device. If your sessions are recorded on CD, you may use it just as you would an ordinary stereo INPUT DEVICE with Model A.

In addition, you may also use the recorded sessions that are available on line at JWLABS. These on line sessions are not as high quality as tapes or CDs, but they should work just as well for most applications. Since these sessions are in streaming audio on a network server, you may need DSL, cable, or other fast connection for the session to work uninterrupted on line.

Caution:

Slow connections or interrupted connections may cause a shock to the user. Test in your hands at low output before proceeding with regular sessions on line.

On line sessions are a convenience. It permits a traveler to use hotel room computers rather than carrying a player as well. It also allows users to try sessions before they buy them. However, not all recorded sessions have been digitized. In time, more of the library will be available this way. Eventually this on line library will permit any Model A user to access all of the application recordings via the Internet for a small monthly fee.

Install 4 "AA" Size Batteries

Open the case and lay it flat. Using a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the Hold Down Screw on the battery holder cover, as shown.

Carefully press and slide the cover towards you, until it is open slightly.

Now you can remove the cover

Be sure to install the batteries correctly. Installing one backwards may damage the unit. Do not use old or leaking batteries. Always replace spent batteries with fresh, new batteries.

Follow the battery manufacturers instructions for disposal of spent batteries. If battery products are allowed to get too hot, batteries may explode.

Reinstall the Battery Holder Cover using the hold down screw. Do not over tighten.

Front Panel

The features of the Model A Front Panel are marked, but we will cover them here to be sure that you know how they are used. Please read this section carefully.

Input Section
Left side of front panel

Power Switch

Now that the batteries are installed, you can turn on the instrument. The light will glow red, indicating that the machine is on.

AC Adapter Input
This jack is for an AC adapter plug. Not all AC adapters will work. Only adapters with exactly the correct output will work properly.

When the AC adapter is plugged in, the batteries are bypassed. This is useful if batteries are not desired.

If you would like an AC adapter, for use with the machine, please use only those provided by JWLABS. Simply call to order.

Frequency Input Jack

This jack is for your Frequency Input Cable. The Input cable allows you to use almost any audio source. Tape, CD, DVD, and FM radio are the most common.

Model A will not work with AM radio.

Headphone Jack

This is a stereo headphone jack. It is for use with music only. I allows you to listen to music while you are using the machine. The output will be perfectly in time with the music. Music is the ideal medium for introducing people to the therapy. It is non-medical in nature, and may be presented as entertainment only. Tactile music is very enjoyable and may be addictive. It is a highly prized experience for teenagers.

Output Section
Right side of Front Panel

Output Jacks

At the upper right of the FRONT PANEL, there are two identical OUTPUT JACKS. These are for your OUTPUT LEADS. They are wired in parallel, so they work just the same. One does not cancel out the other. Two of these are provided to allow the user to employ two sets of OUTPUT LEADS or to accommodate two people at the same time. It doesn't matter which one you use when you are doing a normal session. One 6 foot and one 9 foot lead are provided for your convenience. Use the length that is appropriate for your session, according to how close you are from the unit. The longer one is often best for use with the salt water bath technique.

Activity Light

The green ACTIVITY LIGHT indicates that there is activity at the OUTPUT JACKS. It does not indicate the amount of OUTPUT POWER that may be present. It does tell you that the machine is working, and receiving adequate INPUT. However, this light is for safety. It makes it easy to know at a glance if the leads are "hot".

The amount of INPUT the machine is getting will also be indicated by this light. If it is not enough, the light will be dark and there is no OUTPUT, even though the RED POWER LIGHT is lit. Turn up the volume of your player or INPUT DEVICE to make the green ACTIVITY LIGHT glow brightly.

Caution:

If you only turn up the power of your player to the point where the light is barely lit, Model A OUTPUT may be intermittent. This means that there is not quite enough INPUT POWER, and the machine is only hearing it partially. Give the volume of the player another turn. The ACTIVITY LIGHT should glow brightly and steadily.

The activity light may seem to flicker at low frequency. This steady flickering is normal, as the light will show each pulse, when the pulses are slow enough, such as at 20Hz.

In some cases, where the total output power of the player is not adequate, the light may not glow. Change batteries of the player, or replace with a more powerful media device.

Amplitude

The AMPLITUDE KNOB controls the amount of OUTPUT. The knob is on a TEN TURN potentiometer, also called a variable resistor. The maximum OUTPUT is over 60 volts.

Caution:

Always begin and end each session with the AMPLITUDE turned all the way down. Never make or break your connection with the machine unless you have turned the AMPLITUDE all the way down. Never begin or end your session recording unless you are disconnected. Never turn on the POWER, or turn off the POWER of Model A unless you are not connected. Never plug or unplug any of the LEADS or CABLES when you are connected.

Getting Started

First, try playing your session recording. Almost any playback device with a 1/8 (3.5mm) headphone jack will work. Just try listening to the recording for a minute or two. You will only hear a whistling or humming sound. What you hear is the recording of Model B output as it was created at the factory. Normally, you will NOT hear this. Once you have inserted the INPUT CABLE, the speakers if any, of most INPUT DEVICES (or players) will be bypassed.

Turn on the Model A by flipping the POWER SWITCH to the up position. The RED POWER LIGHT should be lit.

Insert one end of the INPUT CABLE into your player jack marked for headphone use. Notice that the whistling sound has stopped.

The microphone jack, or other auxiliary jacks on the player will not work with Model A.

Insert the other end of the INPUT CABLE into the Model A jack marked INPUT.

Turn up the power of the PLAYER, until your ACTIVITY LIGHT is bright and steady. Now Model A is hearing the recording and converting it into a therapeutic OUTPUT.

Make sure your AMPLITUDE knob is turned all the way down, (top of knob all the way to the left). Remember, this is a TEN TURN pot, so continue to turn it until you feel it stop.

Model A is now working and your OUTPUT at the OUTPUT JACKS is zero.

Before you plug in an OUTPUT LEAD

Do not plug in two lead sets unless they are going to be in use. If you accidentally touch the RED and BLACK ends together, it will short the OUTPUT, and this will make your OUTPUT seem intermittent or prevent it altogether.

Notice that the LEADS have a PLUG at one end, and a pair of PINS at the other, one RED and one BLACK. This constitutes a "lead set". There are two sets provided, but begin by choosing only one set.

Four sticky PATCHES are provided. Carefully peel them from the protective plastic one at a time. Replace them on this protective plastic when not in use.

You will always need two PATCHES in order to do a session. Insert one PIN into the side of one PATCH, and the other, into the side of a second PATCH. The LEAD SET should now have a PATCH on each of it's two PIN ends.

These disposable PATCHES may be used dozens of times and may be renewed if they dry out, by putting a little water on the sticky side. Store in a plastic bag so they will remain moist longer. They can be purchased from JWLABS in bags of 40.

The LEADS are bifurcated, or split. You may want to split the LEADS a bit more to give you more room to operate. Just gently pull them apart, and they will separate more. Usually a few feet is all the split that you will need.

Insert the PLUG end of the prepared LEAD into either of the two OUTPUT JACKS on Model A.

Model A is now ready to use

Place the PATCH with the RED end firmly in your right palm. Place the PATCH with the BLACK end firmly in your left palm. This is a reasonable place to begin and to test your OUTPUT.

You should feel nothing because the AMPLITUDE is set at zero. Slowly turn up the AMPLITUDE until you begin to feel a tingling in one or both hands. You may need to turn the AMPLITUDE KNOB two or three times before it is strong enough to feel. If you need to turn it up more than five turns, and you still do not feel anything, stop by turning the AMPLITUDE all the way down again. Check to be sure that all your connections are secure, and the CABLES are in the correct places. Check your BATTERIES . Go through this manual again step by step until you get it right.
